Tales of the Frog Princess Series by E. D. Baker: The Frog Princess

Now, unless you love romance and adventurous princess stories, I don't recommend this book. I don't think a lot of people read it, but its pretty good! Although, most of my friends don't care for girly stuff like princesses...screw them! There's witches and wizards, peasants and nobles, kings and queens, dragons and griffins...sound enticing? I'd rate it a 4 1/2!
          Genre: Fantasy/Magic/Mystery/Drama/Romance/Fairy-Tale/Adventure/Paranormal/

SUMMARY: (I know it's short. But then, the book is short. :P)
Princess Emeralda a.k.a. Emma isn't exactly the perfect princess. Her laugh sounds like a donkey's bray, she's so terribly clumsy, and she hates Prince Jorge, the only prince suitor she has that her mother hopes she will marry. Emma thought she was escaping her troubles when she sneaked into the swamp, but in reality, all she did was ask for more. Trying to build up her courage to kiss this slimy talking frog called Eadric, she never imagined that the action would turn her own self into a frog!
Eadric and Emma don't know what went wrong, but in the meantime, they start spending time with each other with Eadric teaching Emma how to survive as a frog. After a while, Emma decides that she must find her aunt, who is a powerful and good witch, to reverse the spell. Eadric, however, insists that they find the witch who had cast the curse on him in the first place. While looking for her, they were captured by a witch-pretender who wanted their toes and tongues.
Managing to escape, they make their way back to the castle to hunt down Emma's aunt. But there is one problem: Even if they make it, could her aunt possible not have a way to turn them back?
          E. D. Baker is a fantastic author. She writes her own little fantasies about famous princess tales and does a wonderful job of it. She entrances her audience with humor, romance, and adventure and puts a lovely twist on a classic tale.

(BTW, she writes a few other series. Go look them up!)

Hush, Hush Series by Becca Fitzpatrick: Hush, Hush

One day, I was in my school library, and I was like, I have no idea what to read! Please recommend something! Someone! Help me! My librarian helped me and suggested I try out the Hush, Hush series. I'm glad I took her advice. At least a 4-star, more likely 5-star rating.
          Genre: Fantasy/Magic/Mystery/Drama/Romance/Angels/Otherworldly/Paranormal

SUMMARY:
Nora Grey is a sixteen-year-old girl living in Coldwater, Maine. Nora lives in with her mother, Blythe, in an eighteenth century farmhouse located on the outskirts of town. The house, located on Hawthorne Lane, has no neighbors. The year before, her father had been murdered and the house is one of Nora's remaining connections to him.
Despite that, Nora is an average sixteen-year-old girl. She tries to get good grades, hangs with her best friend, Vee, you know, all the usual. She doesn't care about boys...that is, until she meets Patch.
Nora finds Patch annoying, but is still drawn to him.
Patch is always by Nora's side, often saving her when bad things begin to happen. Nora is attacked on the highway by a masked man, another masked assailant attacks Vee after Vee dons Nora's coat, and more than one person breaks into Nora's house.
Ancient forces are threatening Nora. Patch is one. And there's another...
A classic girl-meets-otherworldly-guy-and-they-all-in-love story, Becca Fitzpatrick captivates her audience with this dramatic telling of angels, fallen and not fallen. Now I think about it, it reminds me of Twilight by Stephenie Meyer: clues telling that he's dangerous, possibly going to kill you; he's so handsome, can't stop thinking about him; other hints that he isn't human; and otherworldly forces interfering with our love...etc. But trust me, it's a lovely tale.

The Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini: Eragon

I saw this book one day in my English classroom library, and I was like, There's a dragon, yay! As I love fantasy, I couldn't wait to read it! What furthered my interest was that the summary on the back/cover showed the setting was to be in medievalish times with magic. I love those types of stories.
          Genre: Fantasy/Mystery/Adventure/Young-Adult/Magic/Dragons

SUMMARY:
Eragon is the nephew of Garrow. He never met his mother Selena, and all he knows about her is that she left him in the village Carvahall of Alagaësia, and she never returned since. One day, he goes hunting in the dangerous Spine when a flash of light and an explosion sounds. In the mist appears a curious gem-like blue stone.
Since it scared off the animals he was hunting, Eragon decided to see if he could sell it to feed his family instead. He couldn't and tells his Uncle Garrow and cousin Roran about his finding. Then one night, the stone hatches. It wasn't a stone; it was a dragon egg.
Both frightened and excited by the discovery that he is now a Rider, Eragon raises the dragon in secret until two of King Galbatorix's servants, the Ra'zac, come to Carvahall, though it is later revealed that they weren't looking for the egg at first. The Ra'zac are monstrous beings who are the predators of man and more. They burned down Garrow's farm, killing him in the process. Eragon and his dragon, who he named Saphria, escape to the Spine, and Eragon vows to avenge his uncle.
On their journey, Brom, the village storyteller who fled Carvahall with Eragon and Saphria, shows his talent for magic and fighting and begins to teach Eragon of those and the ancient language and the history of the Riders. Along the way, Eragon and his friends encounter many obstacles, including a fight with the Ra'zac in which they all would have died had it not been for Murtagh, a superior swordfighter, and rescues an elf named Arya.
Christopher Paolini is a very talented author, although admittedly not all of his ideas are original, but it really is a fantastic story. The classic fantasy, a normal boy suddenly becoming one of the most important people in his world on a heroic quest to stop some sort of evil. There are multiple and intricate plot twists to the series that you'll never see happening. I applaud and cheer for Christopher Paolini as I read every single word from his books.

The Missing Series by Margaret Peterson Haddix: Found

This book is amazing. Porcupine never went to our school's library until I got him to check out this book. It's that cool.
The book drew me in instantly and I'd give it a five star review.
          Genre: Sci-Fi/Mystery/Adventure/Historical Fiction/Young-Adult

SUMMARY:
John Skidmore is an ordinary boy. He's adopted sure, but he never lets that bother him, especially with those adopt-a-kid-and-make-him-feel-happy books. So yes, life is normal for John Skidmore, with his annoying preppy sister Katherine and his two loving parents. Soon, John meets a kid named Chip Winston, who had just moved into the neighborhood. They become fast friends. One day, Jonah receives a mysterious and creepy letter, saying just six words: YOU ARE ONE OF THE MISSING. He brushes it off as a prank until he finds out Chip was sent one too.
Why does both of them receive the letter? What is it that they had in common? After some breaking-and-entering in Chip's own house, they find out Chip is also adopted and that's their connection to those weird notes. Katherine, Jonah, and Chip then set out to find out that the letters are somehow linked to the shifty circumstances surrounding the two boys' adoptions. Their investigating leads them to questioning the FBI, and involving a man that can disappear and appear out of nowhere, a huge smuggling operation, and an airplane that appears out of thin air full of babies.
Margaret Peterson Haddix’s Found is the first action-packed novel in the exciting “The Missing” series and it has many plot twists and involves time travel.

Hi guys. I know I haven't posted anything really, but that's because I didn't know what to post. I've decided that I want to do book reviews too, like Lauren from Lauren's Crammed Bookshelf. It's a great blog. Although, it looks as if she hasn't updated for some time.
Why don't you guys recommend some books for me to read, and I'll try them. Meanwhile, I'll start giving book reviews/comments/stars (like a 3 star hotel).

UPDATE: My book reviews will not reveal anything about the books, because if you know what happens, then why would you read it? If you truly want to read the summaries of these books, search it up online, I don't care. I just want to bring out a little curiosity.

Announcement

Hi everyone,

Right now I'm writing a story and probably a fanfic on Percy Jackson later. I want to share my stories here and see how an audience would receive them.

I'm not sure what to name my first story. Why don't you help me? (After you read it, or at least some of it, of course.) I'll welcome any feedback, especially sound advice and suggestions. But for now, it's going to be called Cure.

Thank you. You don't know how happy it makes me to see my blog being read.

Funny Email

You know how it's so entertaining to go your old things? Well, today, I was looking at some old emails and they totally cracked me up. So, I decided to share one conversation.

SUBJECT: Aw! Last Year Photos (When I was still in Yearbook) - sent by Ebooks

Ebooks: Look at [(name)] ! He's adorable! Can't believe that was only last year!
And here's a picture of [Porcupine]!

Porcupine: You were in yearbook last year? Wow, I never noticed.

Ebooks: Seriously? So was [Underground Rainbow]!

Pretty Horse: So was I!
                      lol

Ebooks: I know, but you're still in Yearbook, so it doesn't count.

Porcupine: [Pretty Horse] still is, but that's not the problem. [Dolphin] is by far the most annoying. SOMEONE  TELL HER TO STOP SHAKING MY ARM, STOP TELLING ME TO SEE HER POWERPOINT OF PICTURES, AND STOP POKING ME.

Ebooks: I don't know what you're talking about.

Pretty Horse: I do... ;-)

Ebooks: Of course you do! You're actually in the class!!

Dolphin: [Porcupine]! Seriously? You know I can see that, right? So are so mean. Oh! My poor heart.

Porcupine: [Dolphin] can tell you everything.

Ebooks: [Dolphin] says: Humph. [Porcupine], you ARE going to pay for saying all those mean things. First of all, my PowerPoint is amazing! You shouldn't have the impression that I'm trying to torture you with it-because I'm not. Second of all, shaking your arm is harmless. It shouldn't even hurt! It's your fault that your body thinks it hurts! Not mine! Also that weird shade of red that your face turned into was either tomato red or as pink as [Ebooks'] old jacket/Coates kind of cool. Third of all, I have NEVER poked you. Or maybe I have , but I forgot.
She pressed the reply only to me. Don't know why she does that.

Pretty Horse: And what does me being in Yearbook/Journalism have to do with me knowing why [Dolphin] keeps shaking [Porcupine's] arm, [Ebooks]? Besides, it was at lunchtime when [Dolphin] told me the secret of desire to shake [Porcupine's] arm.

Ebooks: Whatever.

Underground Rainbow: Hey [Dolphin], what's your last name?

Ebooks: [(last name)]

Underground Rainbow: [Porcupine], don't you DARE call me [name's] sister ever again.

Ebooks: Yeah. Call her [(boy name)]. It's a pun, since her real name is [(name)], and I gave her a boy name. Just say it like [(name)], except say [(boy name)].

Underground Rainbow: [EBOOKS]!!😡😤😡😠😡😤👺👺👺 shut up

Ebooks: ...
Hi [Underground Rainbow]. (note: sometimes we say hi multiple times to Underground Rainbow and it annoys her.)

Underground Rainbow: Everyone, call her [ebooks (pet)]. It's a [(something kind of embarrassing)].

Ebooks: Sure. Do whatever you want. I won't judge. It doesn't even effect me.

Dolphin: I never told you anything about the secret desire of shaking [Porcupine's] arm! I just had a little sugar buzz! I shake people's arms when I have sugar buzzes! and [Porcupine] is fun to shake. And his face turns a nice shade of magenta.

Pretty Horse: I know...

Dolphin: Yes, so don't say that!

Pretty Horse: But you were just hyper and wanted to shake someone's arm, so you started shaking mine. Then, I told you to do that to [Porcupine] instead, and so you did.

Dolphin: It still didn't have anything about me telling you about the "secret" desire to shake [Porcupine's] arm.

(end of conversation)

I am the Hermit

I am the Hermit. It's who I am, but you may not know why. It all started in kindergarten; on the first day of school. I was what you'd say...different. I looked different than the other kids. My skin had flaws, which made the other kids ask, "What is that?" After that, I learned to appreciate personal space. That's why I'm claustrophobic and I don't like it when other people stand too close to me.

I eventually made friends, but during the middle of kindergarten. My parents used to push me to make friends, which made me not want to have any. By first grade, I was in a class without my friends. Two of the five of us, moved away, and that just left the three of us. My other two friends were in the same class, which left me alone. It wasn't too bad, some people talked to me, and I guess it was okay. But by then, my "friends" stopped talking to me, playing with me at recess, and made promises they never kept, which is why I'm not very open with people. I was alone for most of my school life. I made another friend, but she was bossy and no one really liked her. We eventually got into a fight and stopped being friends. I was all alone again.

By second grade, I had made some friends. Everything was going well, until they said they needed a break from me. I don't even get why they would say something like that, but they did. So we took a break. And I was alone again. One day, I was talking to some "popular" people, and my friends (the second group) wanted to be friends again, but by then, it was the end of the year.

The next year, I moved to a different school. I thought it could be a fresh start, but old habits stay. I was still the shy, quiet girl. My tormented years made me quiet, shy, and I always look down. I don't want people looking directly at my face. But I learned that I shouldn't judge people, like they did to me, and I learned to keep secrets for people, but then again, I don't share any of my secrets. After I transferred schools, I made a friend, and she has been my friend to this very day.

My Friend the Hermit

I  have a friend who I will call Underground Rainbow. She is a good friend, I believe, but am I a good friend to her? This is a question that greatly troubles me. Perhaps you will not understand, but nevertheless, please try to.
Underground Rainbow is a quiet, shy girl. She doesn't talk much, not even with her so-called friends. To me, it feels like she isn't a close friend, she's almost like a close school friend. You know, a classmate. A close one nevertheless, but a classmate all the same.
My friend is quite the loner. At lunch, she eats, but she doesn't talk. It's unusual for girls of our age to remain silent. She doesn't really do much; if there is a test, then she asks us to quiz her and she snorts at our stories and jokes, but she doesn't offer anything about herself in return. She's told me stories about her holidays, but not her. She has always been unreachable.
I remember a long time ago in elementary school that she was just in the same grade as me, nothing more. We hadn't really become friends; we were just aware of each other the way classmates are. Together with another group of students, we transferred to a different school. I knew what she looked like, but I didn't know what she was like. But then, it did not irk me, as we were put in different classes and I did not much care for others. The selfishness of youth, an author once quoted.
Then came middle school. At first, she went to a different middle school, but then she suddenly changed. I became her tour guide, since we had many similar classes. It was strange, but I didn't care. Not yet, anyway.
I don't remember what exactly happened, but it seems that Underground Rainbow  brought Ebooks and I together and we gradually became best friends, leaving Underground Rainbow  as the third wheel. We didn't mean to, but I sadly don't think I could've stopped that.
Perhaps I am exaggerating. I do know her, but there is still a wall. Besides our similar interests, we don't have the same sense of humor, I am more outgoing and sassy than her, and to put it simply, we just don't click. Ebooks and I are like two peas in a pod; regrettably there is no room for a third.
There. I have poured out some of my most personal thoughts that I would like to share. After that last paragraph, I feel like I am wallowing in self-pity. However, it feels more like guilt and helplessness; I should be a better friend, but how was I to be a real friend to her if she couldn't open up? How could I be better?
All of this venting was because Underground Rainbow  apparently had to leave in last period and I didn't even realize that she was gone!! She just disappeared!! Sure, I was socializing, but how come she didn't tell me?! It hurt.
The only thing I know about her is that she would make a great hermit.

Series Recommendations and Free Reading Websites

Hi guys,
I'm Pretty Horse, and I'm a bookworm. Obviously I like reading, so I thought that I'd help my fellow book junkies with a few free online reading websites.
I'm also including a list of some of my favorite books and series down below.
WARNING: Most of the romance options in the free websites include mature themes so please ignore all the romance sections unless you know the book to be age-appropriate.

Free Reading Websites:

Recommended Books/Series: (Don't worry; all of the series are fairly appropriate. Also, only including series that aren't as well-known. You know, no Harry Potter or Percy Jackson... Sadly, most of these series are not found online. And yes, I love science fiction and am a romantic.)
Note: Some selections will be repeated because many books have multiple genres.

Science Fiction:
  • The Missing series by Margaret Peterson (sci-fi about time travel, a little historical fiction included)
  • Ender's Game quartet by Orson Scott Card (sci-fi including space travel and alien species)
  • Pathfinder Series by Orson Scott Card (sci-fi/historical fiction)
  • Legend trilogy by Marie Lu (realistic sci-fi and very romantic)
  • Gone series by Michael Grant (sci-fi where all people over 15 years vanish and some people have powers)
  • Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer (sci-fi/fantasy about fairies and a teenage criminal mastermind stealing and later saving the world)
  • The Mysterious Benedict Society trilogy by Trenton Lee Stewart (realistic sci-fi, classic good vs. evil. Spoiler alert: evil long-lost twins too)
  • Darkness Rising trilogy by Kelly Armstrong (fantasy/sci-fi)
Fantasy/Mythology/Paranormal
  • The Kane Chronicles trilogy by Rick Riordan (fantasy w/ Egyptian mythology)
  • The Keys to the Kingdom series by Garth Nix (fantasy, about another hidden world, not w/ the usual vampires and stuff though)
  • Medusa Girls trilogy by Tera Lynn Childs (fantasy w/ Greek mythology, particularly based on Medusa)
  • Darkness Rising trilogy by Kelly Armstrong (fantasy/sci-fi)
  • House of Night series by P. C. Cast (note: a few SEX scenes. Not that detailed, but if you can't stand that stuff, don't read it. BTW, paranormal series about vampires co-exiting w/ humans)
  • The Land of Stories series by Chris Colfer (fantasy that takes place in the world of fairy-tales)
  • Waterfire Saga by Jennifer Donnelly (fantasy that takes place in the world of mermaids)
  • Hush, Hush quartet by Becca Fitzpatrick (fantasy romance about saving the world and falling in love with something otherworldly)
  • Hex Hall trilogy by Rachel Hawkins (paranormal romance and having to save the world cliché)
  • The Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo (fantasy w/ powers; good vs. evil)
  • Paranormalcy trilogy by Kiersten White (paranormal romance and having to save the world cliché)
I will probably continue adding to this list, but maybe not for a while. Also, will you readers please comment on what you think of my blog so far? I welcome any feedback, especially criticism. I just want to improve my writing skills.
More later...
